NU-SHIP Cancellations due to Graduation/Withdrawal

The ٍٍٍ½خر Student Health Insurance Plan (NU-SHIP) provides students with annual coverage, from September 1 through August 31, every year.

Fall 2026 & Winter 2027 Graduates

If you are graduating at the end of the Fall or Winter Quarter, you may be eligible to request cancellation of your NU-SHIP coverage. Please note that graduation-related cancellations can only be processed effective at the end of the quarter in which your degree is officially conferred.

Requests submitted after the applicable deadline will not be approved or processed. Be sure to review and comply with all published deadlines to maintain eligibility for a graduation cancellation.

The Graduation Cancellation Form will be available during the middle to latter part of the Fall Quarter.

Academic Withdrawals

Students who withdraw from their degree program at ٍٍٍ½خر may request to terminate their NU-SHIP coverage. Please reach out to our office via email at student.insurance@northwestern.edu within 10 days of your withdrawal for processing. Please note we are unable to process the cancellation until your withdrawal is reflected in the student's record in CAESAR. Since the NU-SHIP coverage periods align with the academic calendar we can only process your cancellation at the end of the quarter in which the withdrawal takes place. Once we process the cancellation an adjustment will be posted to your student account for the remaining quarter(s) premium.

Please contact Student Financial Services for information regarding your NU-SHIP premium refund. Please note that the NU Student Health Insurance office does not issue refund checks.
